How to determine the correct ring size?
Planning a surprise like a marriage proposal or a special gift? Finding the right ring size without ruining the surprise can be a challenge, but don't worry—we've got you covered. Here are three clever (and totally doable) ways to find the perfect size without arousing suspicion.
1. Borrow a ring they already wear
The easiest way is to get a ring that your partner already wears on the same finger. Take it to a jeweler or use our size chart to determine the exact size. If you're worried about getting caught, make a quick sketch of the inner circle of the ring or press it into soap to get an impression, then put it back in place.
Tip: Rings worn on different fingers or hands can be different sizes, so make sure it's on the right finger!
2. Seek help from a friend or family member
Seek help from someone close to your partner, such as a best friend or sibling. They may already know the exact size, or they can casually figure it out without arousing suspicion. For example, a "fun" jewelry shopping trip or a chat about accessory preferences can work.
Why this works: Friends and family are masters at keeping secrets and can get the job done with ease.
3. Trick with thread or paper
Feeling brave? Try measuring their finger yourself in a quiet moment or even while they're sleeping. Wrap a piece of string or paper tape around the base of the finger, mark where the ends overlap, and later compare to a size chart.
